Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Project Executive while at KHP Capital Partners

The adaptive reuse of the historic Duquesne Light Company Building into Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh represents a thoughtful transformation of a Beaux-Arts landmark into a vibrant, design-forward hospitality destination. The project introduced 247 distinctive guestrooms, blending modern comfort with bold, eclectic interiors that celebrate the building’s architectural heritage.

At the heart of the property, the original light company lobby was meticulously restored and reimagined as an ornate ballroom, preserving its grand scale, marble detailing, and historic character while adapting it into a premier event venue. This signature space anchors the hotel’s social and event programming, offering a dramatic setting for weddings, galas, and corporate gatherings.

The redevelopment also included a destination restaurant and a lively rooftop beer garden, activating both the street level and upper floors while creating unique experiences for guests and locals alike. Throughout the project, careful attention was given to preserving historic elements—such as vaulted ceilings, ornamental finishes, and original materials—while integrating modern systems and amenities required for a full-service hotel.

The result is a highly successful adaptive reuse that honors the legacy of the Duquesne Light Company Building while contributing to the continued revitalization of downtown Pittsburgh.
